Throughout the body, there are pathways like highways and rivers, such as the vascular system, nervous system, lymphatic system, etc.. When there is blockage, much like a traffic jam, in these pathways, the body becomes unbalanced and does not function properly, which can lead to discomfort and disease. Acupuncture involves insertion of thin, sterile, disposable needles into specific acupuncture points to break the obstruction and encourage proper flow in the pathways. In addition to breaking through blockage, certain acupuncture points also promote the body’s production of important substances, such as Qi (pronounced “chee” and means “energy”), blood, important fluids, and healthy cells. Because acupuncture facilitates proper circulation of Qi and blood and balances out the body, it encourages the body to heal itself. In other words, acupuncture promotes holistic as well as wholistic healing. Acupuncture needles are also used to flag an injury site for recovery. In response to the needles, the body will send blood and healing cells to the area to clean up inflammatory debris and generate new healthy tissue.
