Why Sonora went into Eastern MedicineBeing of Asian descent, Sonora was exposed to Eastern Medicine at an early age by her parents. However, she ironically rejected the concept then, considering it to be hokey, primitive, weird and "un-American." It took her re-encountering Eastern Medicine as an adult while investigating the physical effects and manifestations of mental and emotional stress (something she had been personally experiencing) to accept it as a sophisticated, scientific and effective medicine. Upon further research, she became even more humbled and fascinated with Eastern Medicine’s wholesome process of encouraging one’s own natural healing abilities and its approach to the mind and body as one complete entity. This idea was refreshing and seemed more logical than treating the physical and psychological separately, as done in Western Medicine. Sonora has, since, devoted her life to thoroughly studying Eastern Medicine, educating patients to encourage self-awareness and compliance, and providing medical treatments that promote balance and natural healing.

Yoga CertificationSonora also completed a challenging 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certification program, taught by the illustrious, no-nonsense yogi, Carmen Aguilar (in Chicago), and received her degree in cYoga. Because Sonora practices a medicine that balances the body and mind and promotes self-healing, she found yoga to be an excellent complementary exercise and is resolved to making it a life-long part of her practice. Sonora’s proficient knowledge of the human anatomy allows her to give proper adjustments and helpful instructions so her students can get the most out of each pose.
